Brett McGurk Book on October 7 Hostage Talks Set for October Release

The Independent reported that Brett McGurk, the lead U.S. negotiator for the release of hostages taken by Hamas, will publish a book on the talks. Crown, a Penguin Random House imprint, has scheduled “Brink: Inside the Race to Free the October 7 Hostages” for release on Oct.

6. McGurk, 53, is a longtime Middle East adviser and diplomat who had served under three U.S. presidents before President Joe Biden appointed him in 2023 to oversee the hostage talks between Israel and Hamas.

The Oct. 7, 2023 attacks left more than 1,000 people dead and resulted in more than 200 taken captive. The remaining surviving hostages were freed in October 2025. According to Crown, the book will describe McGurk’s efforts to balance competing demands from the two sides while traveling worldwide in pursuit of an agreement.
