upi.comThe Milwaukee Brewers promoted shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday ahead of a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. The team designated third baseman Luis Rengifo for assignment to create roster space for Pratt.
Pratt reached the major leagues 2½ months after signing an eight-year, $50.75 million contract on April 3 that includes club options for 2034 and 2035.
The deal includes escalators that could increase its value by $10 million if Pratt repeatedly finishes high in MVP voting and the team exercises the two options. Brewers officials stated they signed Pratt based on his defensive skills and athletic potential.
"We believe in the bat. We believe in the glove, certainly. This guy is really toolsy, too," Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said when the contract was signed.
Pratt won a Gold Glove as the top shortstop in the minor leagues in 2024. 349 on-base percentage, six home runs, 32 RBIs and 17 stolen bases in 58 games. 343 on-base percentage, eight home runs, 62 RBIs and 31 stolen bases in 120 games. The Brewers entered Tuesday leading the NL Central by 4½ games.
