Britain Declares Third Heatwave as Southern England Forecast to Reach 35C

GB News reported that the Met Office declared Britain's third heatwave of the year. Temperatures are forecast to reach 35C in some parts of southern England by Friday and Saturday. Teddington in west London recorded 34C on Monday after three consecutive days above 28C.

Forecasts show 32C on Tuesday, 33C on Wednesday and 34C on Thursday. The UK Health Security Agency issued amber heat health alerts for the Midlands and southern England from 9am Wednesday until 9pm Sunday. Yellow alerts cover Yorkshire and northern England over the same period.

The alerts warn of increased pressure on health and social care services and higher risk of illness and death for people over 65 and those with underlying conditions. Officials warned of greater risk of water-related incidents including cold water shock and drowning as people seek relief in rivers, lakes and coastal areas.

A clear north-south split will dominate the first half of the week, with Scotland seeing cooler conditions, stronger winds and rain while southern England remains hot.

The heat is forecast to spread northwards by the weekend, bringing warmer and more humid conditions across much of the UK. The Met Office warned that parts of England could experience tropical nights with overnight temperatures above 20C. National Rail advised passengers to check before travelling due to potential service disruptions.

The AA urged motorists to check tyre pressures and coolant levels, carry drinking water for passengers and pets, and take regular breaks while avoiding the hottest part of the day. The Met Office warned that UV and pollen levels will be high to very high across much of the country throughout the week.
