Bucks Trade Antetokounmpo to Heat for Players and Draft Picks

The Milwaukee Bucks agreed two weeks ago to trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat in exchange for four players, three first-round draft picks, a pick swap and a second-round pick. Bucks general manager Jon Horst said the package was selected for the draft capital and player ages it delivered, giving the team flexibility as it rebuilds after 13 seasons with Antetokounmpo.

Horst called the move a "very difficult decision" during a conference call with reporters Wednesday. He stated that no one in the organization views the current roster as stronger without Antetokounmpo. "He's one of the greatest players to ever play, greatest player in the franchise history," Horst said.

" Horst added that the trade was made to set a foundation with a new coach and to build a roster that can sustain competitiveness year after year.

Milwaukee finished the most recent season with a 32-50 record and missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years. The team replaced coach Doc Rivers with Taylor Jenkins during the offseason. Horst said the decision was not forced by external pressure.

He described it as an opportunity that aligned with both the player's goals and the organization's plans. "This was not a 'have to,'" Horst said. " Horst said he feels a sense of excitement about the new challenge and believes Antetokounmpo is entering a situation that offers similar opportunities.
