Bud Cauley Wins RBC Canadian Open for First PGA Tour Title
The 36-year-old closed with a 5-under 65 to finish at 17-under 263 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, eight years after a car accident that nearly ended his career.
sportsnet.caBud Cauley won the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday for his first PGA Tour title in his 239th start. The 36-year-old closed with a 5-under 65 to finish at 17-under 263 at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon, Ontario. Cauley began the final round one stroke behind Jackson Suber.
He started his back-nine birdie run with a shot to 4 feet on the 206-yard 11th hole, then holed out from 93 feet on the par-4 12th to take the lead. He added a 13½-foot putt on the 13th and a 15-foot putt on the 15th, both par 4s. After a bogey on the par-4 17th, he parred the par-5 18th.
Matt Fitzpatrick finished second and took the FedEx Cup lead. Viktor Hovland finished third at 14-under-par after shooting 65. Jackson Suber, Jesper Svensson, Jimmy Stanger and Brice Garnett finished one stroke behind Hovland.
Cauley returned to the PGA Tour just more than two years before the victory. Eight years earlier, he sustained six broken ribs, a collapsed right lung and a fractured left leg as a passenger in a car accident at the Memorial Tournament.
