Bundibugyo Ebola recoveries nearly double in one week in Congo

Congolese health authorities reported that the number of recoveries from the current Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak nearly doubled in one week. The total rose to 148 on Thursday from 80 on June 18. Treatment centers continue to admit dozens of patients each day.

Current outbreak details The outbreak is the largest recorded for the Bundibugyo strain. Health workers are collecting data on how the virus affects patients as more people recover. Previous Bundibugyo outbreaks showed lower reported fatality rates than those caused by the Zaire and Sudan strains.

Officials stated it is too early to determine whether the current outbreak will follow the same pattern. Hundreds of patients remain hospitalized, limiting the ability to assess final outcomes.
