Drivers who witnessed the crash stopped their vehicles and rushed to help, using a sledgehammer and shovel to break the cockpit window and prop open the cabin door. Dashcam footage showed the jet sliding down the highway before stopping near the airport perimeter. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the other five were transported to local hospitals in stable condition.
Witnesses described people inside attempting to break cockpit glass from within as smoke filled the fuselage. A firefighter climbed a ladder into the burning plane to reach the final occupant while others directed water hoses at the wreckage. Five police officers were also treated for smoke inhalation after assisting at the scene.
