Byzantine-Era Mudbrick City Found in Egypt's Dakhla Oasis

Egyptian archaeologists have uncovered a mudbrick city from the Byzantine era in the Dakhla Oasis in Egypt's western desert. The excavation revealed residential structures, a basilica, watchtowers, hundreds of inscriptions, and gold coins minted during the reign of Emperor Constantius II.

The find was made by an Egyptian archaeological mission working at the oasis site. Officials said the structures date to the Byzantine period and reflect settlement patterns in the region.

Fathy said the discovery helps highlight the cultural diversity witnessed by the Egyptian oases throughout different historical periods. The ministry described the site as evidence of continuous occupation and trade activity in the oasis during the Byzantine era.
