California Governor Gavin Newsom delivered an eight-minute July Fourth address on Saturday that focused almost entirely on President Donald Trump, New York Post reported. Newsom’s office shared excerpts of the speech ahead of time. The governor stated that the American people will go to the polls and that President Trump knows what is coming.
He added that Trump is afraid for himself and does not care about the public, America or his own political party. Newsom said Trump has added more than $4 billion to his personal fortune while in public office. He stated that Trump promised to drain the swamp but gave it a presidential suite.
Newsom also said Trump is degrading the concept of American self-government in a way no king or foreign power has managed. The governor recounted Trump’s actions after the 2020 presidential election loss to Joe Biden and the January 6 Capitol riots. New York Post reported that the address included references to the use of the National Guard and criticism of the U.S.
Supreme Court.
