The team announced Thursday that it has signed its head coach to a multiyear contract extension. The coach, 44, guided the team within four points of the second and final Eastern Conference wild-card spot. The team had the 21st youngest roster in the NHL, according to Elite Prospects.
Background on the coach The coach previously served as head coach of the team's AHL affiliate from 2018 to 2021. He was hired ahead of the 2023-24 season after working as an assistant coach with another NHL team. In his first season, the team finished with a 40-31-11 record and lost in the first round of the playoffs.
The following season, the team recorded 51 wins, earned the most points in the Eastern Conference, and advanced to the second round. The coach received the Jack Adams Award, given annually to the NHL's top coach.
Contract details and roster outlook A team executive said in a statement that the coach has played an important role in the development of young players and earned the respect of veteran leaders. The team enters the 2026-27 season with $31.35 million in projected salary-cap space. Two restricted free agents and three unrestricted free agents, including a 40-year-old captain, remain unsigned.
