Capitals sign multiple forwards and defensemen ahead of Ovechkin's return

The Washington Capitals completed multiple roster additions during the NHL offseason before Alex Ovechkin announced his return. The team acquired winger Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues on a contract with an $8.125 million cap hit through the 2030-31 season.

It then completed a sign-and-trade with the Buffalo Sabres for winger Alex Tuch, who signed an eight-year deal carrying a $10.5 million cap hit.

Patrick said the decision to sign new players was independent of Ovechkin's plans. The 40-year-old forward, who has scored 929 goals in 1,573 games, will play his 22nd season with the Capitals on a one-year, incentive-laden contract.
