com reported. The caller gave her name and badge ID and demonstrated detailed knowledge of his personal banking information. The caller stated there was significant fraud activity at the branch where Gutman banks and instructed him to withdraw all funds in cash.
She told him not to inform bank employees because they might be involved. Gutman realized the call was a scam after the instruction not to speak with bank staff. He posted a video recounting the attempt on his X account on July 10, 2026.
“They seemed to know so much about me, about my bank account,” Gutman said in the video. ” Gutman joined CBS News as chief correspondent in 2026. The incident follows a March case in which former KSEE 24 news anchor Alex Delgado lost $72,000 after receiving a text that appeared to come from the Robinhood app and claimed suspicious activity on her account.
Both the U.S. federal government and the California State Legislature have enacted laws aimed at investigating, prosecuting, and disrupting cyber-scam networks.
