The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention imposed new measures on Monday as health officials worked to contain an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Washington Free Beacon arts and culture editor Victorino Matus said stricter controls are needed. "I think we really need to be stringent," Matus said on the Hugh Hewitt Show Thursday.

Travel screening at Dulles Airport Matus noted that Ebola spreads through direct contact with bodily fluids, unlike COVID-19. He said even a slight suspicion of infection should trigger quarantine. Officials diverted a flight on Wednesday that was bound for Detroit after a passenger from the Congo boarded in error.

The flight landed in Montreal instead. "People often don't like to admit they're feeling sick when they go from one country to another," Matus said.
