Celtic issued an apology to Hearts after hundreds of its supporters entered the field at the end of a Scottish Premiership match. The Glasgow club defeated Hearts 3-1 at Celtic Park on the final day of the season. Callum Osmand scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time to give Celtic a 3-1 lead and clinch the title.
The match did not resume after the pitch invasion. The SPFL later confirmed the game had ended before the incident. Hearts stated that it had received reports of physical and verbal abuse toward its players and staff both on the pitch and elsewhere.
Celtic said it regretted that individuals had entered the field of play and emphasized there was no justification for the behavior. Celtic added that it would cooperate fully with any investigation and with the SPFL. The club also apologized to Hearts for preventing its players and staff from saluting their supporters at the end of the match.
Police Scotland said it would take robust and swift action against anyone found to have committed criminal acts.
