Celtics Trade Jaylen Brown to 76ers for Paul George and Draft Picks

The Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers on July 1, 2026, for Paul George, two first-round draft picks and two second-round draft picks. The deal ended a partnership in which Brown and Jayson Tatum led the Celtics to multiple Eastern Conference Finals appearances, two NBA Finals appearances and the 2024 NBA title.
Tatum posted a throwback photo and farewell message on his Instagram Story on July 3.
"9 years! Forever grateful for all that we accomplished together, for pushing me to be a better player," he wrote. "From first-round exits to winning a chip together, I'm thankful for it all. Nothing but love and respect for you as a player and as a person!
Looking forward to see how you attack this next chapter of your career and wish nothing but the best for you! " Brown addressed the trade during a Twitch livestream on July 2 and in a written statement posted across his social media channels. "There was definitely a message being sent, and that message was received," he said.
"I wasn't thrilled with the amount of respect that was shown during this process. I think there was a bit of a lack of respect. " Brown specifically named Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens.
"I wasn't thrilled [with] the way he facilitated some of the conversations, but I definitely think there's more to it," he said. "I just wish that the 'more to it' could have been explained to me because if the 'more to it' was explained, I think I would've understood. " Tatum missed a large portion of the 2025-26 season while recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in May 2025.
