Serena Williams Withdraws From Wimbledon Doubles With Venus Over Knee Injury
Serena Williams pulled out of her scheduled doubles match with sister Venus at Wimbledon on Saturday due to a right knee injury. The 44-year-old announced the decision on Instagram after sustaining the injury during her first-round singles loss.

Serena Williams withdrew from her Wimbledon doubles match with sister Venus Williams on Saturday because of a right knee injury. The injury occurred during her first-round singles loss to Maya Joint on June 30. Williams had been scheduled to face Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio in the doubles event that afternoon.

She announced the withdrawal on Instagram, posting video of herself limping with a bandaged right knee and photographs of four syringes containing yellow fluid drained from the joint after Tuesday's match. "I'm heartbroken to have to withdraw from doubles," Williams wrote. " Williams stated that her knee should not swell or collect that much fluid again.
She thanked Wimbledon tournament director Jamie Baker and All England Club staff for accommodating her schedule. The sisters last competed together at a Grand Slam at the 2022 U.S. Open. Williams has won 13 Wimbledon titles, seven in singles and six in women's doubles with Venus.
She largely stepped away from competitive tennis after 2022 while raising her two daughters, now aged eight and three. "All I can say is stay tuned to a city near you," she added.
