The regulator launched a compliance review after complaints about events at Hounslow Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre. The National Secular Society cited hosted speakers and past seminars at the west London venue.
news.sky.comThe Charity Commission has opened a regulatory compliance case into Hounslow Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre following complaints about hate speech. GB News reported that the National Secular Society lodged the complaints this week over the mosque's decision to host Egyptian preacher Yusri Jabar and over remarks by imam Shaykh Ammar Siddiqui.
Jabar has previously called for the killing of Jewish people.
In a January 2023 seminar at the mosque that was later uploaded to its YouTube channel, Siddiqui said gay people would destroy the human race. The session was based on a book titled Advice for the LGBTQ and appeared aimed at children. Siddiqui stated during the seminar that the purpose of the LGBTQ agenda is to destroy the human race because participants cannot produce children.
He added that punishment for homosexuality in certain countries serves as a deterrence. Jabar addressed an event at the mosque this week after entering Britain despite prior calls for the Home Secretary to block his entry. In a January YouTube video, he said wars would stop after killing the Jews.
The mosque was previously attended by Asif Hanif, one of the suicide bombers in the 2003 attack on Mike's Place bar in Tel Aviv. It has received hundreds of thousands of pounds in public funding. A Charity Commission spokesman said the regulator opened the case after media reports about an individual connected to the mosque and will engage with the trustees while considering the National Secular Society complaint.
