Charles Barkley finished the opening round of the American Century Championship at minus-six points and tied for 62nd place. The 63-year-old NBA Hall of Famer competed at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. Yardbarker.com reported that Barkley hit a shot over the back of the green and then scuffed a chip shot from the rough.
After the scuffed chip, he struck the ball again in frustration and sent it over the front of the green. Barkley holds a listed handicap of 10. His previous best finish in the event was 58th place in 2024.
Joe Pavelski led the field after the round with 29 points. Mardy Fish sat second with 27 points, Stephen Curry third with 25 points, Tony Romo fourth with 23 points, and Annika Sorenstam fifth with 22 points. The American Century Championship is in its 37th year and is owned and broadcast by NBC Sports.
The winner receives approximately $150,000.
