Chicago Bulls Part Ways with Head Coach Billy Donovan Amid Organizational Changes

The Chicago Bulls have parted ways with head coach Billy Donovan after six seasons, the team announced on Tuesday morning. Donovan's departure follows a 31-51 season and comes after the franchise dismissed its executive vice president of basketball operations and general manager earlier this month.

He brought class and genuine care to this organization that made a real impact on people," Reinsdorf said. "We wanted Billy to continue as our head coach — that was never in question. But through honest conversations, we all agreed that giving our new head of basketball operations the right to build out his staff was the most important thing for the future of this franchise.

That is the kind of person Billy is — he put the Bulls first. ESPN reported that Donovan wants to continue coaching. He had been linked to a college vacancy, but that position went to another candidate with NBA ties. In a separate development, the Brooklyn Nets signed head coach Jordi Fernandez and his entire coaching staff to multiyear contract extensions, sources told ESPN.

Fernandez has led the Nets for two seasons. The extensions reflect a long-term commitment to the current leadership.

The Bulls dismissed executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley on April 6. This followed a season that ended with a 31-51 record.
