James Anixter, the Chicago Cubs fan known as the Pink Hat Guy, died Tuesday night at age 81 from complications following surgery, Forbes reported. He had attended almost every home game at Wrigley Field since 1967, sitting in Section 18 behind home plate through the team's 2012 triple-digit-loss season and its 2016 World Series championship.
The Chicago Cubs announced they will permanently affix Anixter's name to those Section 18 seats.
His seats will remain unfilled for the remainder of the 2026 season. Anixter was instantly recognizable at the ballpark by his signature pink hat. Darren Anixter, one of his four children, described his father as the greatest Cubs fan of all time.
Away from Wrigley Field, Anixter served for 22 years as executive vice president of Anixter Brothers, the wholesale wire and cable distribution company founded by his father and uncle, according to the family obituary cited by Forbes.
