Chiefs Coach Says Receiver Rashee Rice Will Miss OTAs Due to Jail Sentence
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is serving a 30-day jail term after violating probation terms. Coach Andy Reid stated the team will work to reintegrate Rice once released.
citizen.co.zaKansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is serving a 30-day jail sentence in Dallas and will miss all organized team activities and mandatory minicamp. Rice was ordered into custody last week after testing positive for marijuana, violating the terms of his probation.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Thursday the team has discussed the situation with the league and does not expect further discipline at this time. Rice underwent knee surgery one week before his sentencing and is expected to be sidelined for two months.
Reid stated Rice is projected to be ready for training camp upon release, scheduled for June 16. The coach added that the team will focus on getting Rice caught up with practice and conditioning once he returns. "It's not an easy thing he's going through.
Life lessons are important, but we're all given chances to learn. He's in that position now," Reid said. Rice pleaded guilty in July 2025 to two third-degree felony charges stemming from a 2024 highway crash and received deferred adjudication along with five years of probation.
The NFL previously suspended him for six games last season under its personal conduct policy.
