Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Released After 30-Day Sentence for Probation Violation Tied to Injury Crash
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice left Dallas County Jail on Tuesday after completing a 30-day term for a probation violation tied to a prior car crash.
ESPNKansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was released from Dallas County Jail on Tuesday after serving a 30-day sentence for violating the terms of his probation. Rice, 26, had been booked into the jail on May 19 after testing positive for THC. The probation stemmed from his role in a car crash that left multiple people injured on a Texas highway.
Upon release, Rice quickly passed a handful of reporters and entered a waiting SUV. Rice had surgery about a week before his sentencing to remove debris from his right knee. A judge approved his request to receive treatment at Parkland Hospital while serving the sentence.
Rice missed all of the Chiefs' voluntary offseason workouts and their mandatory minicamp, which concluded last week. Chiefs coach Andy Reid stated he expects Rice to report on time to training camp at the end of July. "Rick [Burkholder] has talked to him more than what I have, just making sure that everything was set there where he could do some rehab with it and still do the time that he needed to take care of," Reid said.
" "When he gets back, we've got to get him caught up in doing what he needs to do, and make sure he gets it," Reid added. " Rice has caught 156 passes for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career. He has played in 28 games over three NFL seasons.
