Kyle Adler boarded a plane in February for the first time since infancy to meet his birth mother in Chile. S. family in 1990.

Adler is one of thousands of children who were illegally adopted during the military dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. Their reunion resulted from DNA tracing and assistance from organizations that help Chilean adoptees investigate their origins.

DNA analysis and advocacy groups have enabled similar searches for other adoptees removed from Chile during the same period.
