Kyle Adler, a 36-year-old Chilean American, traveled to Chile in February to meet his birth mother for the first time since he was nine months old. He was one of thousands of children adopted abroad during Chile's military dictatorship from 1973 to 1990.

Adler is one of thousands of children who were illegally adopted during the military dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. Their reunion resulted from DNA tracing and assistance from organizations that help Chilean adoptees investigate their origins.
DNA analysis and advocacy groups have enabled similar searches for other adoptees removed from Chile during the same period.
