Chilean police arrested three nationals in Argentina last week on suspicion of a series of burglaries targeting homes of professional athletes in the United States and Argentina. The arrests followed an earlier detention of two suspects who broke into the home of tennis player Juan Martín del Potro in Argentina. That case led investigators to a third suspect arrested on Saturday.

Details Commissioner Enrique Gutierrez of Chilean

Interpol said in a video reported by the AFP news agency that the three individuals would be extradited. He added that they had no significant criminal record in Chile and had specialized in robberies outside the country. Police said the suspects monitored social media profiles and team schedules to determine when homes were empty.

They also assessed security measures before carrying out the break-ins.

One reported incident occurred on 7 October 2024 at the home of Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce, where $20,000 in cash was taken. Other athletes whose homes were targeted included Dallas Cowboys player Linval Joseph and Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis.

In February 2025, seven men were charged in connection with the same crime spree. Chilean Interpol and the FBI have been contacted for further comment.
