etftrends.comChina plans to generate half its electricity from nuclear and other non-fossil sources by 2030, according to a plan released Thursday by the National Energy Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission. The targets include raising total annual energy production capacity to the equivalent of 5.8 billion tonnes that year from 5.13 billion tonnes in 2025.
Half of all electricity generated in 2030 is to come from diversified non-fossil sources that include nuclear, hydro, wind and solar.
Total related investment under the plan will exceed 20 trillion yuan, or US$2.9 trillion. NEA director Wang Hongzhi said at a Friday press conference that the energy system over the next five years will feature greater security and resilience along with a newer structure focused on integration, efficiency and innovation.
Wang added that the government will optimise overall planning and layout while strengthening support for key projects.
The plan also seeks to promote two-way empowerment between artificial intelligence and energy needs, including for data centres. It proposes prioritising green electricity supply, better coordination between large energy bases and major computing hubs, and macro-management of data centre power use.
