A new Chinese facility, described as the largest in the world, was unveiled last week in the southern province of Guangdong, the South China Morning Post reported. The mill uses new technology that allows for the industrial scale production of micron-scale super powders. The company behind the mill stated that the new technology is 10 times more efficient than older methods.
These mills look like crude spinning drums that are loaded with heavy balls made from materials such as metals, graphite or polymers, according to the South China Morning Post.
These mills play a key role in producing advanced defence technology, such as the radar-absorbing coating on stealth aircraft made from magnetic iron flakes ground into microscopic slivers, the South China Morning Post reported. Jet engine turbine blades are made from metal powders that are pressed and heated to remove every hidden flaw.
