Chinese Foreign Vice-Minister Ma Zhaoxu is expected to visit the United States next week, @LiveSquawk reported. The trip is intended to lay the groundwork for President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington later in 2026. A stop in Miami, the host city for the December G20 summit, is also likely on the itinerary.
Ma has played a prominent role in overseeing US-China relations. Xi last visited the United States in 2023, attending the APEC summit in San Francisco and holding talks with then-President Joe Biden. A September 2026 summit between Xi and President Trump is expected.
“If Ma’s trip materialises, it will serve as a temperature check on US-China relations, potentially paving the way for positive surprises during President Xi’s visit in September,” said Feng Chucheng, founder and partner of Hutong Research.
