CJ McCollum agrees to one-year, $21 million extension with Hawks after $30.7 million 2025-26 season

CJ McCollum agreed to a one-year, $21 million contract extension with the Atlanta Hawks, ESPN reported. The deal was announced on June 21 as the NBA offseason began following the New York Knicks' defeat of the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals. 7 million during the 2025-26 campaign.
The new contract lowers his salary while keeping him in Atlanta after he arrived in the Trae Young trade. McCollum hit game-winning shots in the final minute of consecutive playoff games against the Knicks. He led the Hawks in assists after Young's departure and formed effective lineups with Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu.
4 net rating, according to Cleaning the Glass, ranking second among all lineups with at least 500 possessions. 5 net rating, per NBA Advanced Stats. McCollum previously played alongside Damian Lillard with the Portland Trail Blazers.
His ability to handle on- and off-ball duties allowed him to run the offense or take a supporting role with Johnson. June 30 marks the final day for players in the last year of their contracts to sign extensions. It is also the first day teams can negotiate with free agents from other franchises.
