Colorado Rockies Place Sugano and Halvorsen on Injured List

The Colorado Rockies placed right-handers Tomoyuki Sugano and Seth Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list retroactive to Wednesday. Sugano went on the list with back spasms after feeling discomfort while playing catch. He had previously dealt with a fingernail issue that delayed one of his starts.

Sugano is 8-4 with a 4.80 ERA in his first season with the Rockies. Manager Warren Schaeffer said the back issue should be minimal. "This should be very minimal. I don't think it's a big deal," Schaeffer said.

Halvorsen was placed on the list with shoulder inflammation. The Rockies recalled left-hander Sean Sullivan from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Saturday’s game against the San Francisco Giants. Sullivan is 0-2 with an 8.64 ERA.

The team also selected the contract of right-handed reliever Jordan Romano from Triple-A Albuquerque. Romano signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies on May 6 after being designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels in late April. In nine appearances with Albuquerque, Romano posted a 4.15 ERA with 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Romano went 0-2 with a 10.13 ERA in his most recent major-league appearances with the Angels. Schaeffer said Romano had shown improved velocity after time at Triple-A. "There was a point there where he was the best big-league closer in the game," Schaeffer said.

Romano is a two-time All-Star reliever who had back-to-back 36-save seasons with Toronto in 2022 and 2023.
