A 10-year-old boy who lost his parents and older brother in the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela received a video message from a professional soccer player after requesting one of the player's stickers. The boy, identified as Andrés Mieles, remains hospitalized after his right leg was amputated. He was rescued shortly after the twin earthquakes destroyed his home in La Guaira.
Video message delivered The soccer player recorded the message one day after his national team advanced to the World Cup Round of 16. In the video, the player greeted the boy by name, offered a hug, and invited him to attend a match once he recovered.
A hospital visit on Friday included the video presentation along with additional gifts. A musician who visited with a chef delivered the message to the boy.
Additional items sent The soccer player also arranged for a signed jersey to be sent to the boy. The musician posted about the delivery on social media the following day. The boy's request for the sticker had circulated among well-wishers, prompting contact with the player through a team official.
