Communist Party USA Says No Democratic Candidates Are Party Members

The Communist Party USA said Friday that none of its members are current or prospective Democratic candidates for Congress. Co-chair Joe Sims stated in a party release that he does not know any Democratic candidate for Congress who belongs to the Communist Party USA. He added that he is unaware of any member of Congress who is a member, though he said that would increase party dues revenue.

President Trump posted on social media Monday that D.C. mayoral nominee Janeese Lewis George is a communist and said he would block her agenda. He also criticized primary victories by candidates in Colorado and New York, calling them hardcore communists. He repeated the point at Mount Rushmore on the eve of Independence Day.

Sims said Democratic socialists seek reforms to relieve suffering and called for an end to what he termed red-baiting. Co-chair Rossana Cambron stated that supporters of the president’s agenda will lose the midterms. The party seeks a peaceful path to socialism, Sims said, and described capitalism as its enemy.
