Rex Heuermann, a 62-year-old architect, is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday to three life terms after pleading guilty in April to killing eight women whose bodies were found along Long Island roadways.
Background on the Case The slayings occurred between 1993 and 2010.
Police linked Heuermann to the crimes after reopening the investigation in 2022. He was arrested in July 2023 outside his office. DNA evidence recovered from a pizza box discarded near his workplace connected him to multiple victims.
Authorities said Heuermann followed a four-day preparation process before each killing and searched extensively for material depicting violence against women. Some victims were dismembered and wrapped in burlap before their bodies were dumped in remote areas.
Attorney Ray Tierney said the sentencing will allow resources to shift to other cases.
