Cowboys WR George Pickens Completes Physical Before Mandatory Minicamp
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens reported to The Star on Monday for his physical before this week's mandatory minicamp. The move avoids more than $90,000 in non-recoverable fines.
ESPNDallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens completed his physical Monday at The Star in Frisco, Texas, as a required step before the team's mandatory minicamp this week. 3 million franchise tag in late March. Executive vice president Stephen Jones had stated the team would not negotiate a long-term deal with Pickens.
Pickens did not take part in the voluntary workouts that included six organized team activities. Coach Brian Schottenheimer said last week that Pickens' participation at minicamp would be limited because the team had not seen what kind of shape he is in.
"He's obviously a great athlete, but we'll be smart, but there's plenty of things he can do from the mocks to the walk-throughs and get him back into the system," Schottenheimer said.
"Again, if we're cautious it's just because we want to be cautious. It's not because we don't think he's not working. " Skipping the mandatory minicamp would have resulted in fines totaling more than $90,000 that could not be rescinded by the club.
Pickens had not signed the franchise tag, he would not have been required to attend minicamp or training camp. Pickens established career highs in catches (93), yards (1,429) and touchdowns (nine) in 2025 after he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to that season. Pickens and quarterback Dak Prescott held a handful of throwing sessions before the offseason program began.
Schottenheimer, Pickens, and owner Jerry Jones met and conveyed that the Cowboys love Pickens and expect him to be with the team for a long time. For the break between minicamp and training camp, Prescott has organized a trip with the skill players for workouts and team-building.
