Cubs Closer Palencia Diagnosed With Mild Flexor Strain
Daniel Palencia will miss at least the next week after an MRI confirmed a mild right-arm flexor strain. The 26-year-old has three saves and a 2.70 ERA in 19 appearances this season.

Cubs closer Daniel Palencia has a mild flexor strain in his right arm, manager Craig Counsell announced Saturday morning. Palencia, 26, underwent an MRI on Friday that confirmed the strain. He had been placed on the injured list Tuesday after experiencing elbow inflammation following Monday night's win over the Colorado Rockies.
"He's shut down from throwing through the road trip, then we'll start ramping back up," Counsell said. The Cubs open a seven-game road trip Monday against the New York Mets, so the earliest Palencia will resume throwing is June 29. That timeline means his earliest possible return to action is July.
70 ERA. This marks Palencia's second stint on the injured list this year after he missed time in April with an oblique issue. The Cubs are using a closer-by-committee approach while he is sidelined, ESPN reported.
