Daniel Cormier said Ian Garry's plan to finish Islam Makhachev late in their UFC 330 main event could lead to trouble. Garry has predicted a late stoppage when he challenges the lightweight champion on August 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, telling reporters he intends to display his full skillset before ending the fight.
Cormier, speaking on his YouTube channel, stated that such thinking risks a very bad night or bad result against the pound-for-pound number one fighter.
He stressed that the manner of victory does not matter, only that Garry wins. The former dual-weight champion advised Garry to drop any fixed script for when and how the fight should end. Cormier said Garry should not aim to beat Makhachev in a specific round to avoid the result being viewed as a fluke.
