Trump-Endorsed David Flippo Wins Nevada GOP Primary in 2nd Congressional District
Retired Air Force Lt. Col. David Flippo defeated former state Sen. James Settelmeyer in the Republican primary. He will face Democrat Teresa Benitez-Thompson in November.
Retired Air Force Lt. Col. David Flippo won the Republican primary for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District. The race was called Wednesday after President Donald Trump endorsed Flippo in the closing weeks of the campaign.
Flippo overcame accusations that he was a carpetbagger after moving into the district this election cycle following a 2024 loss in southern Nevada. Gov. Joe Lombardo and retiring Rep. Mark Amodei both supported former state Sen.
James Settelmeyer. Flippo thanked voters on X late Tuesday. He said he will join President Donald Trump to “fight for the hard working men and women” in Nevada. ” he said on X. Democrats nominated Teresa Benitez-Thompson, chief of staff to state Attorney General Aaron Ford.
She will face Flippo in the general election for the state’s only Republican-held House seat. In the 3rd Congressional District, Democratic Rep. ” President Donald Trump endorsed O’Donnell, who thanked the president in his victory statement.
Aaron Ford defeated a progressive candidate in the Democratic primary for governor and will face incumbent Gov. Joe Lombardo in November. Lombardo, a former Clark County sheriff, is running on his record of public safety and job creation while pledging to address housing affordability.
Ford is tying Lombardo to Trump in placing blame for soaring prices and has pledged to lower costs for families. He would be the state’s first Black governor if elected. Republican primaries for attorney general and secretary of state featured several candidates who had pushed election conspiracy theories.
Adriana Guzmán Fralick won the GOP nomination for attorney general and will face Democratic state Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro. The secretary of state primary included Jim Marchant, a former state lawmaker who has said the 2020 election “was probably stolen,” and Sharron Angle, a former state lawmaker who was part of an effort to block the certification of Nevada’s 2020 election results.
