DCCC Adds Four Candidates to Red to Blue Program for Third Time, Now Backing 24 in Bid for House Majority

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Thursday that it was adding four Democratic candidates to its Red to Blue program. The new additions are former prosecutor Marni von Wilpert in California’s 48th District, former NASA chief of staff Bale Dalton in Florida’s 7th Congressional District, political organizer Denise Powell in Nebraska’s 2nd District, and former Navy pilot Rebecca Bennett in New Jersey’s 7th District.

The expansion marks the third time the program has grown since its launch.

With the four new candidates, the program now includes 24 candidates that the party is boosting with additional resources as it tries to win control of the House in November. Marni von Wilpert is running against Republican San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond in California’s newly formed 48th District. The district is held by retiring Rep.

Darrell Issa (R-CA). Both von Wilpert and Denise Powell are running in open districts that lean Democratic. Denise Powell is set to face Omaha City Councilmember Brinker Harding for retiring Rep. Don Bacon’s (R-NE) seat.

Bale Dalton is set to face Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) in Florida’s 7th Congressional District, which the nonpartisan Cook Political Report rates as likely Republican. Rebecca Bennett is in a toss-up race against Rep.

Tom Kean (R-NJ). Rep. Tom Kean has been absent from Congress for three months due to a medical issue. In a Tuesday afternoon statement, Rep. ” Washington Examiner reported that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is expanding its Red to Blue program for the third time since its launch.
