Democratic Policy Group Releases Four Proposals Modeled on Project 2025

A Democratic policy group released the first four proposals from a planned set of policy recommendations intended to serve as a counterpart to the conservative Project 2025 document. The group aims to clarify what a future Democratic administration would pursue in office.

One proposal calls for breaking up the century-old monopoly model of the electric power industry. The group states that the current structure leaves 150 million households without choice in providers and blocks tens of billions of dollars in potential savings.

A second proposal seeks financial support for families with child care expenses. A third calls for federal protections for children from social media and artificial intelligence. The fourth proposal targets what the group terms the "annoyance economy," including spam calls, chatbots, cancellation difficulties, and paperwork burdens.

Project 2029 estimates these practices cost American households more than $100 billion annually.

2029 plans to release dozens of additional domestic and foreign policy proposals over the next year. The proposals will later be compiled into a book. Chad Maisel told The Bulwark that the group would consider its work successful if Democratic presidential candidates adopted the ideas and they informed debate ahead of the 2028 election.

The preview appeared roughly two months after an earlier February report that described Maisel's hiring as executive director.
