Democratic Socialists of America Reports Record Membership

The Democratic Socialists of America said it reached more than 120,000 members on Saturday. The organization stated the figure makes it the largest socialist group in United States history. The group reported the increase after one of its members won a Democratic primary for New York mayor in June 2025.

The same member and other local candidates backed by the organization won elections in November 2025.

DSA candidates won three additional primaries in New York in June, the organization said. Those results gave the group greater influence inside the Democratic Party. The organization has supported several Democratic elected officials over more than ten years. It also assisted with get-out-the-vote work and outreach for candidates in multiple states.

The president also told reporters last week that he views democratic socialists and communists as the same.
