ESPNThe Denver Broncos signed head coach Sean Payton to a new five-year contract on June 11, 2026. The agreement runs through the 2030 NFL season and replaces the two years remaining on his previous deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Payton has led the Broncos to the third-most wins in the NFL over the past two years. The team posted a 14-3 regular-season record in 2025 and reached the AFC Championship Game. The Broncos compiled a 32-19 record during his three seasons as head coach through June 2026.
Penner also noted the close partnership between Payton and general manager George Paton. The Broncos traded a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick to the New Orleans Saints in 2023 to acquire Payton. They received a 2024 third-round pick in return.
Payton previously led the Saints to a 152-89 record and their only Super Bowl title after the 2009 season. He was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2006. General manager George Paton signed a five-year contract extension in May 2026 that runs through the 2030 season.
Payton said talks on the new contract began in earnest right after Paton had signed his contract. "It makes all the sense in the world, I'm super appreciative of that opportunity," Payton said after Thursday's OTA practice in Englewood, Colo.
