The Denver Broncos signed head coach Sean Payton to a new five-year contract on June 11, 2026, that runs through the 2030 NFL season. The deal replaces the two years remaining on Payton's previous contract. It also aligns with the five-year extension general manager George Paton signed in May 2026 that runs through the 2030 season.
Financial terms of the new contract were not disclosed. Payton was believed by many in the league to already be one of the highest-paid coaches under his original deal. The Broncos finished the 2025 season with a 14-3 record and reached the AFC Championship Game, where they lost 10-7 to the New England Patriots.
Starting quarterback Bo Nix missed that game with a fractured right ankle. The team is 32-19 in Payton's three seasons as head coach through the end of 2025. The Broncos had missed the playoffs in each of the seven seasons before Payton was hired.
In free agency this offseason, the Broncos re-signed 17 of the 21 players scheduled to be unrestricted, restricted or exclusive rights free agents.
