A teenager identified locally as Kieran repaired the chain on a police bicycle after it broke during a patrol in the Heanor and Langley Mill area. The officer, PCSO Colledge of the Heanor and Langley Mill Police Safer Neighbourhood Team, was able to resume duties shortly afterward.

Officers from the Amber Valley community policing team have established the Heanor & Langley Mill Community Hero Award. The award will be given every three months to a resident of the Heanor or Langley Mill area for acts of assistance or volunteering. Nominations can be submitted through the Heanor and Langley Mill Police SNT Facebook page.

Colledge said the community includes people who perform kind gestures and go the extra mile to help others. "Every quarter we will be recognising an outstanding member of the public with our community hero of the quarter award," he said. "This is where as a community we can come together to celebrate achievements and spread positivity where it is due," he added.
