Detroit Lions release cornerback after felony arrest

The Detroit Lions released cornerback Terrion Arnold after his arrest last week on felony charges of armed robbery and kidnapping, the team announced Monday. Arnold, 23, turned himself in Wednesday night. Prosecutors said he orchestrated the abduction and beating of three men three days after cash and luxury items, including Rolex watches and Louis Vuitton bags, were reported stolen from him at an Airbnb rental in the Tampa area.

Six associates carried out the crimes by holding, beating and pistol-whipping the victims, according to prosecutors. Arnold was not present at the time.

Bond and release conditions A judge set bond at $1 million Monday.

Arnold was released from custody Tuesday after posting bond. Conditions include no contact with the six co-defendants or witnesses, surrender of his passport within 48 hours, and confinement to his Tallahassee residence except for football activities or court appearances.

Prosecutors asked the judge to require a GPS tracking device. Arnold's attorneys argued the device would prevent him from playing football. Prosecutors are now asking the court to reconsider that request after the Lions released Arnold.

Legal arguments Prosecutors said Arnold is responsible because he told associates he wanted to confront the suspected thieves. Two female co-defendants have pleaded guilty and are cooperating with authorities. Their statements tie Arnold to the crimes, according to prosecutors.

"Our office remains committed to seeking justice for the three victims in the case who were beaten, robbed, and held against their will," said Erin Maloney, a spokesperson for the state attorney's office. Arnold's attorney argued prosecutors are "not even close" to showing that Arnold knew or directed what his associates would do.
