Devils trade rights to Nemec and Tsyplakov for draft picks and prospect

The New Jersey Devils traded the rights to pending restricted free agent defenseman Simon Nemec and winger Maxim Tsyplakov on Tuesday. The return included a pair of first-round draft choices, one each in 2026 and 2027, a 2026 second-round pick, and prospect Etienne Morin. The 2027 first-round choice carries top-10 protection.
Player details Nemec, 22, was selected second overall by the Devils in the 2022 draft. He appeared in parts of three NHL seasons and recorded 11 goals and 26 points in 68 games during the most recent season. Tsyplakov played in 22 games for the Devils last season and becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Asset exchange The acquiring club gains a young defenseman projected for a top-four role and a forward entering free agency. The Devils receive draft capital and a 21-year-old prospect who has not yet played in the NHL. Free agency opens league-wide on July 1 at noon ET.
