Diamondbacks Shut Out Padres 8-0 Behind Kepler's Three-Run Homer

The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the San Diego Padres 8-0 on Monday night at Petco Park behind eight runs and a three-run homer from Max Kepler. Kepler, 33, connected on a 94 mph four-seam fastball from Padres starter Walker Buehler in the third inning. The ball traveled 417 feet into the right-field bleachers, giving Arizona a 6-0 lead.
It was his first home run since he was activated on June 25 following an 80-game suspension for testing positive for Epitrenbolone. Kepler also singled in a run in the first inning. The homer was his 180th of his career and his first at Petco Park.
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said the three-run homer was the decisive blow. "When it left the bat it was very clear to everybody that it would be a homer," Lovullo said. Kepler said the home run carried no extra weight.
"It wasn't any more special than any of his previous home runs," he stated. He added that he remains patient after returning midway through the season. The Diamondbacks improved their record with the shutout victory.
