Djokovic Defeats Auger-Aliassime in Five Sets to Reach Wimbledon Semifinals

Novak Djokovic defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (12-10), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (10-4) in a Wimbledon quarterfinal on July 7 that lasted five hours and 15 minutes. The victory advanced the 39-year-old to his 15th Wimbledon semifinal, where he will face Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic sustained a lower left leg injury at 4-4 in the first set and received a medical time-out and massage before continuing.

He argued with tournament referee Denise Parnell after the roof was closed on Centre Court, saying during the match, "You are so proud of your rules and you're not sticking to any kind of rule. " He added, "We can play a whole other set outdoors. " He also stated, "What can I say?

These are the kind of moments I still play tennis for. " Djokovic is the oldest player to reach a men's singles semifinal at Wimbledon since Ken Rosewall in 1974. He played his 50th five-setter in men's singles Grand Slams, extended his record for most Wimbledon men's singles match-wins to 107, and reached his 55th Grand Slam semifinal.

Sinner advanced by defeating Jan-Lennard Struff 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in the fourth round. Alexander Zverev defeated Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) to reach the quarterfinals.
