DNA Matches Tyler Robinson and Lance Twiggs Found on Towel and Screwdriver

DNA samples believed to match Tyler Robinson and Lance Twiggs were recovered from a towel used to wrap a rifle and from a screwdriver found on a roof near the Utah Valley University campus. Two experts, one from the state of Utah and one from the FBI, confirmed the lab results in a Provo courtroom on the second day of a hearing to decide if Robinson will stand trial.

Two samples of male DNA matched both Robinson and Twiggs, 22, with a high degree of probability, according to the lab report.

Amanda Bakker, an FBI DNA examiner, testified about the accuracy of the tests and the degradation of the samples. Twiggs, Robinson’s roommate and romantic partner in St. George, Utah, about three hours from the campus, has not been accused of wrongdoing.

Prosecutors stated that Robinson admitted to the shooting in a text message after the fact and left a note under Twiggs’ computer keyboard detailing the plot. They said Robinson wrapped his grandfather’s rifle in a towel after the shooting and discarded it in a wooded area near campus.

Video clips shown in court depicted Robinson on the Utah Valley University campus the morning of the assassination.

Prosecutors said the footage showed him interacting with Turning Point USA members and stopping for lunch at a Chick-fil-A. Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, entered the courthouse through a private entrance on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Monday marked her first time facing Robinson in court.

His wife Bettina Anderson, and Jack Posobiec attended the hearing.
