Doctors Without Borders Accuses Israel of Restricting Aid Creating Malnutrition Crisis in Gaza

Doctors Without Borders released a report stating Israel deliberately restricted food and aid in Gaza between late 2024 and early 2026, resulting in a malnutrition crisis affecting infants, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Doctors Without Borders, known by its French acronym MSF, has accused Israel of deliberately restricting food and aid in Gaza. The group said this created a "manufactured malnutrition crisis" with particularly severe effects on infants and pregnant and breastfeeding women.

In a report covering operations at four health facilities it supports in Gaza from late 2024 to early 2026, MSF said it documented higher levels of prematurity and mortality among infants born to malnourished mothers as well as increases in miscarriages.

The charity also examined the impact of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a U.S.- and Israeli-backed private organisation established last year to largely replace United Nations distribution of aid. "The malnutrition crisis is entirely manufactured," Merce Rocaspana, MSF’s medical referent for emergencies, said.

The Israeli military reported that Hezbollah launched several rockets toward its soldiers in southern Lebanon over the past few hours but caused no casualties. The army said it responded by attacking 15 Hezbollah positions, including weapons storage facilities.

Three Lebanese nationals were killed in Israeli air raids on Nabatieh in southern Lebanon on Tuesday despite an ongoing ceasefire. Since March 2, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed at least 2,715 people, wounded 8,353 others and displaced more than 1.6 million people, about one-fifth of the population, according to official figures.

Reporting from Beirut, Zeina Khodr said southern Lebanon remains an active conflict zone with no ceasefire in effect. She reported more than 30 Israeli air strikes occurred in less than 24 hours on May 6, with civilians bearing the impact of evacuation orders that have extended several kilometres inside Lebanese territory.

Iran is expected to send its response to a U.S. proposal through Pakistani mediators on May 7. An Iranian member of parliament and former foreign minister stated that the response will be delivered to the Americans. Iranian officials said at this stage they are not negotiating their nuclear programme and are focused on ending the war on all fronts.

A new body called the Persian Gulf Strait Authority has been established to manage maritime traffic in the area. The United States has indicated it is pursuing a peace deal with Iran, though the details of a 14-point proposal sent to Tehran remain under review.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry welcomed indications of a potential agreement and said it would be an honour to host any future talks in Islamabad.

India plans to increase spending on a tax-refund scheme for exporters and extend the programme by five years as the conflict involving Iran affects its trade outlook. The scheme, currently set to expire on September 30 with a budget of about $1 billion, reimburses exporters for taxes and levies.

India’s annual budget released in February nearly halved the financial allocation for the effort in fiscal year 2026-27. In March, India’s merchandise exports fell 7.4 percent year-on-year, with 24 of 30 major export categories declining and shipments to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia dropping sharply.

Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization told captains of commercial ships that its ports are prepared to provide maritime services, technical support, supplies and medical assistance to vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The advisory will be broadcast three times daily for three days through communication networks and VHF systems.
