Doosan Bears sign Wes Benjamin and Yunior Severino after releasing Chris Flexen and Daz Cameron
The Doosan Bears signed pitcher Wes Benjamin to a US$450,000 contract and infielder Yunior Severino to a US$200,000 contract on July 2. The moves came after the team released two foreign players on June 29.

The Doosan Bears signed pitcher Wes Benjamin to a US$450,000 contract and infielder Yunior Severino to a US$200,000 contract on July 2. Benjamin first joined the Bears in early April on a six-week contract as a replacement for injured starter Chris Flexen. He earned a second six-week deal in late May while Flexen remained out with shoulder problems.
The Bears released Flexen on June 29, two days before Benjamin's second short-term contract was set to expire. On July 1, Benjamin struck out a season-high 10 batters and allowed one unearned run in six innings against the Lotte Giants. He has posted a 2.66 ERA since his season debut on April 21, the third-best mark in the KBO during that span, and owns the second-best ERA on the Bears, who lead the league with a 3.97 team ERA.
Benjamin previously pitched for the KT Wiz from 2022 to 2024. The Bears also signed Severino, a 27-year-old from the Dominican Republic, after releasing outfielder Daz Cameron on June 29. 529 with five home runs and 44 RBIs in 54 games in the Mexican League this season.
The switch-hitting infielder has played first base, second base and third base in his career. The Bears said Severino will provide power from both sides of the plate. The team ranks near the bottom of the KBO in runs, home runs, batting average with runners in scoring position, and on-base plus slugging.
