Duchess of Edinburgh Records Cameo on BBC Radio 4's The Archers

The Duchess of Edinburgh appeared as herself on BBC Radio 4's The Archers in the episode that aired at 19:00 BST on Thursday. GB News reported that Sophie recorded the segment in May at BBC Studios at the Mailbox in Birmingham and featured at the fictional Borchester Show in her capacity as honorary president of Linking Environment and Farming.

The 61-year-old duchess stood before a microphone under bright studio lights while holding a script and wearing a longline teal dress, according to photographs released with the report.

She recorded alongside actors Tim Bentinck, who plays David Archer, David Troughton, who plays Tony Archer, and Susie Riddell, who plays Tracy Horrobin. GB News reported that Sophie shared a laugh with cast members after the session and covered her mouth in apparent surprise while speaking with Charles Collingwood, who plays Brian Aldridge.

Queen Camilla appeared on the programme in 2011 as president of the National Osteoporosis Society during the show's 60th anniversary.

Princess Margaret recorded a cameo in June 1984 as a VIP guest at an NSPCC fundraising fashion show held in the ballroom of Grey Gables, using a makeshift studio in the library at Kensington Palace. The Archers has aired on BBC radio since 1951 and has produced more than 20,000 episodes, making it the continuous drama serial with the most episodes worldwide.

Its pilot first aired on the Midlands Home Service on 29 May 1950 before the national launch in January 1951.

The programme is set in the fictional county of Borsetshire, located between Worcestershire and Warwickshire just south of Birmingham.
